My dad asked me to do that internet thing and find this album for him as he was looking for the song “The Beach.” So anyway I found it and was listening and I actually hadn’t heard this one before. I am a huge huge JR fan and had managed to miss this one which came out on Twin/Tone records(!!!) in 1985. This is a great album. This is classic Jonathan without frills reminding me of an equally earnest but maybe a little less explicitly twee version of Rock and Roll With The Modern Lovers. Some nice lady and backing vocals too without getting as cheesy as they do on Jonathan Sings.
Additionally, listening to this album, I was reminded of an interview from this period in JR’s career that I used to watch all the time. If I recall, the sound is a little off, but I think he performs “Jeans” and talks about writing “Chewing Gum Wrapper.” One of the best interviews with him I’ve ever seen:
