Death Ambient is a trio consisting of Ikue Mori (DNA, etc.), Fred Frith (Henry Cow, etc.), and Kato Hideki (Ground Zero, etc.).  Organized into a sort of tongue-in-cheek “guitar, bass, drums” combo, this self titled first release on Tzadik is incredible.  Bleak, beautiful, dynamic improvisation from some of the top heads in the game.  If you’re expecting straight dark ambient or something it’s not that, it can be a much noisier record with a lot of skitter and thump, but the title certainly isn’t misleading in its entirety and most of the record is spent doing a scarier mid-90’s-Tzadik-version of something resembling the SME’s “insect music.”  Additionally, this file contains all of the original CD booklet and tray scans.
